Privacy, for students

Version student-notice-2026-11-v3 · Dated October 26, 2026

Heads up: Draft for review

Draft for the closed alpha. Version student-notice-2026-11-v3. Sixly hasn't approved it yet, so nobody should rely on it. Notes marked “For review” are for Sixly and its lawyer and come out before it's approved.

What Sixly keeps about you, who sees it, and what you can change. The full privacy notice has more detail.

What Sixly keeps

  • What you write on your boards, including what you erase. Erased work stays hidden; it helps Sixly read your writing.
  • Your typed steps and your answers.
  • What Sixly read from your writing, and what the checker said about each step.
  • The hints you saw.
  • When you practiced and for how long.
  • Your name, your email, your age group and the state you live in.

What Sixly never keeps

  • Your birth month or year. You tell us once, so we know your age group, and then we drop them.
  • Your phone number, unless you choose to get sign-in codes by text. That needs your parent's yes and yours, and turning it off deletes the number.
  • Your voice. If voice is on for you, Microsoft's Azure speech service turns what you say while holding the talk button into words, and then the recording is gone. If you're under 18, your parent decides whether voice is on, and your words show only as a caption on your screen.
  • What you type to the tutor. Students under 18 can't type questions to the tutor yet.

Who sees your work

  • You.
  • Sixly's team, when they fix a problem you report, or, if you say yes, when they label work to make the checker better.
  • If you're under 18, the parent or guardian who holds your account. Here is what they see and don't see:

What your parent can see

  • The questions you practice and how they went
  • The steps the checker caught, with a replay of your board
  • When and how long you practice, and the sessions left on your plan
  • Your goals and settings, and your answer about research use, which they can turn off

What your parent never sees

  • The tutor's hints to you
  • What you type to the tutor

Companies that help run Sixly

A few companies run parts of Sixly for us, and they may not use your data for anything else. Supabase stores your account and boards. Vercel runs Sixly's servers. Mathpix reads handwriting, if your parent says yes, and doesn't save your writing. Anthropic's AI, Claude, writes hints from your typed steps, only if your parent says yes, and never learns from them. Resend sends emails. Cloudflare checks that a person is signing in.

If you live in New York and you're under 18, Sixly can't read your handwriting yet. A New York privacy law needs a signed agreement with the company that reads handwriting, and it isn't signed yet. Type your steps, and Sixly checks them.

Using your work to make Sixly better

  • It's your choice. If you're under 18, it stays off unless you say yes.
  • We ask you once, on a screen of its own, after you finish your first board. “Keep my work out” is the first choice. Sixly works the same either way.
  • If you say no, we won't ask again until January 1 of the year after next. You can turn it on yourself in Settings any time.
  • If you say yes, you can turn it off in Settings any time, and your past work leaves the research data within 30 days.
  • Your parent can turn it off for you, but only you can turn it on.
  • Students in Vermont under 18 aren't asked; it stays off.

Messages

Sixly doesn't send you reminders or news during the alpha. The only email a student under 18 gets is the invite they asked for.

When you turn 18

Your account starts following the rules for adults, and we tell you by email and in the app. Your choices stay as you set them. Your parent can still see your practice until you remove them in Settings.

Deleting your work

If you're under 18, ask your parent: they can delete your practice work or close your account in the parent view. You can also email privacy@sixly.ai yourself. If you're 18 or older, use “Delete my practice work” or “Close my account” in Settings.

Questions

Email privacy@sixly.ai. The full privacy notice and the student rules have more.

For review: Written for students 13 to 17 (New York research 4.6: plain words a 13-year-old reads easily; Spanish before launch). Adult students hold their own accounts and follow the full notice; research use starts on for them outside New York.
