Alpha terms
Heads up: Draft for review
The rules for using Sixly during its closed alpha: an invite-only test before launch. Written for parents, adult students and teens, in plain words.
Who these terms are between
Sixly is run by IvyPath LLC, doing business as Sixly (“Sixly”, “we”). These terms are an agreement between Sixly and the account holder:
- a student who is 18 or older, for their own account; or
- a parent or legal guardian, for each student under 18 they add or link.
Students under 18 don't agree to these terms. They agree to the short student rules, and the parent or guardian who holds the account is responsible for it. How Sixly handles personal information is in the privacy notice, which is part of these terms.
For review, needs a lawyer: Compliance register D-01: the parent or the adult student is the party, because a minor can cancel a contract in New York (General Obligations Law 3-101). The operator is IvyPath LLC until Sixly, Inc. exists (D-009); the entity and its address go here once confirmed.
What the closed alpha is
The closed alpha is a test of Sixly before it launches. You can join only through an invite link from Sixly. Because it is a test, features may be missing, change, stop working or be removed, and some things will be wrong. Telling us helps: use Report a problem in the app, or email support@sixly.ai.
We may pause or end the alpha, or end an invite, at any time. When we can, we'll tell account holders by email before the alpha ends. What happens to alpha accounts and their data when it ends is in the privacy notice.
For review: The alpha's end date, and whether alpha data is kept or deleted then, are open (build plan section 10, question 10).
Joining and signing in
- Sixly is for people in the United States.
- Students 18 and older join with their own invite. Students 13 to 17 join with a parent or guardian, who verifies their own email and phone number and decides what Sixly may do for the student.
- Students under 13 can join only through a parent, after the parent gives verified consent (see the children's privacy notice). This path isn't open yet.
- Every account holder confirms an email address with a 6-digit code and a US mobile number with a texted code. Message and data rates may apply. Signing in later uses an email code only.
- Keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us at support@sixly.ai if you think someone else has used your account.
The free trial and tutor time
Each student starts with a free trial: up to 3 h of tutor time in the 7 days from the first session, with most features and no card. There is one free trial per phone number and per email address: if the phone number or email you verify already had a free trial on another Sixly account, the new account doesn't get one. To check this, Sixly keeps a scrambled copy of each, as the privacy notice explains.
What counts as tutor time
Plans count tutor time, not sessions: you can start as many practice sessions as you like. Tutor time is measured on Sixly's server, never by the browser.
- Tutor time is time you are working with the board open. It counts while you or the tutor did something in the last 2 minutes: writing, typing a step, a check, a hint or an answer. A pause longer than 2 minutes counts as 2 minutes, and the rest of it doesn't count.
- Idle time doesn't count. A board left open in a hidden tab or on a screen nobody is using, reading a question before you start, reviewing past work, changing settings and the first-run tutorial never count.
- When tutor time runs out, practice goes on. You can still write, type steps and answer questions, and answers are still graded. Reading your handwriting, checking steps and hints wait until you have tutor time again.
- One at a time. Work on two devices or tabs counts once.
- Nothing you write is lost. Sixly always saves your ink and typed steps.
Examples:
- She opens tonight's set, reads two questions and leaves: no tutor time.
- She works steadily for 40 minutes: about 40 minutes of tutor time.
- She works 15 minutes, leaves the tab open for an hour and comes back: about 17 minutes.
- She finishes a question, thinks for 5 minutes without writing, then keeps going: those 5 minutes count as 2.
The free trial is up to 3 h of tutor time per student, for 7 days from the first session, with no card. After it, practice without the tutor stays free. Pro is 12 h of tutor time a month, from the day the plan started. Unlimited and Live have no monthly limit, with fair use of 3 h of tutor time a day. Admin grants follow the same rules.
Where voice is on, talking with the tutor has its own allowance of speaking time: your words while you hold the talk button, plus the tutor's spoken replies. The free trial has 1 h in all (up to 20 min a day); Pro 2 h a month (up to 30 min a day); Unlimited 5 h a month (up to 45 min a day); Live 5 h a month (up to 45 min a day). When it runs out, voice stops until it comes back, and hints keep working as text.
For review: Tutor time is D-100 (2026-11-02): hours replace counted sessions. The words come from the plan config, so a change there changes this page.
Plans, prices and your invite's offer
After the trial, Sixly plans to offer these plans:
| Plan | What you get | Draft price |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | 12 tutor hours a month | $59 a month |
| Unlimited | No monthly limit. Fair use: 3 active tutor hours a day | $199 a month |
| Live | Unlimited plus live classes. Fair use: 3 active tutor hours a day | $299 a month |
Prices are drafts and may change. Nothing is charged unless you choose a plan and pay. Live classes aren't running in the alpha yet.
Your invite's offer. Your invite may come with an offer for when paid plans open: free, or a percent off these prices. Sixly records the offer with your account. Before you can buy anything, we'll show you the price, how billing and renewal work, and how to cancel, and nothing starts or renews without your clear yes. If an offer changes, we'll tell you first.
Paying. Payments go to XEC Commerce LLC, doing business as Sixly, through Stripe. Monthly plans renew every month until you cancel, which you can do at any time from Settings (Manage billing); the plan then runs to the end of the month you paid for. A Test-Day Pass is one payment and never renews: it runs to the end of your test day, and if your test date moves later, the pass moves with it once. If Sixly isn't useful, you can ask for a full refund of your household's first payment within 7 days of it, once per household and per card.
A parent pays for a student under 18, after reading a short notice and ticking boxes that record their consent; the card payment in the parent's name confirms it. A prepaid card can pay but can't confirm consent. For a child under 13, a parent may instead confirm with a $1 charge that is refunded within 3 days, once it has posted.
Alpha time. Sixly may give a student a plan for a number of days, or extra tutor hours, during the alpha. When that time ends, the student goes back to whatever is left of the trial. When the tutor time is used, account holders can ask for more alpha time in the app.
For review, needs a lawyer: Prices are Vicente's direction of 2026-10-25 (D-088), marked draft until the pricing study. Checkout, renewal and cancellation terms (compliance C-07, New York GBL 527-a) are written when payments exist. Under New York's Child Data Protection Act (899-ff(4)) no price, plan or perk may depend on a minor's answer to a consent request; none does.
AI, answer keys and the math checker
- Sixly is an AI tutor. It's software, not a person.
- Answer keys and a math checker that Sixly runs (SymPy) decide whether a step or an answer is right. AI never decides that.
- Hints and explanations are written by AI or by Sixly, and they can be wrong. Readings of your handwriting can be wrong too, so check them.
- If something looks wrong, use Report a problem. Sixly's team reads the reports during the alpha.
Using Sixly
Use Sixly for your own studying. Please don't:
- share your account or let someone else practice on it;
- try to get around the session count, the free-trial rule, or any limit, or make extra accounts to get more trials;
- add questions copied from tests, books or other companies, College Board questions included. Add only your own work and your own practice problems;
- put personal details, yours or anyone else's, in your work or your reports;
- try to break, overload, copy or study how Sixly works to build something else, or use it to harass anyone.
We may pause an account that breaks these rules. We'll tell the account holder why.
Your work
- What you write and type is yours.
- You let Sixly store and use it to run Sixly for you: to show your boards, read and check your steps, write hints, grade answers, save your progress, measure tutor time, and show a parent what the privacy notice says they can see.
- Sixly uses your work to improve its checker only as the privacy notice describes, and you can turn that off any time.
- Sixly's questions, hints, explanations and software belong to Sixly.
- If you send ideas or reports, Sixly may use them to improve Sixly without owing you anything.
Pausing or closing an account
An adult student can close their account any time in Settings. A parent or guardian can pause a student's practice, delete the student's practice work, or close the student's account from the parent view. Sixly may pause or close an account that breaks these terms, or when the alpha ends. What we delete and when is in the privacy notice.
What Sixly can't promise
- Sixly doesn't promise any score or score gain.
- During the alpha, Sixly is offered as it is, and it may not always be available.
- To the extent the law allows, Sixly isn't responsible for losses caused by using the alpha. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law gives you and that can't be waived.
For review, needs a lawyer: Disclaimer and limitation wording for a free alpha that minors use, under New York law. No score guarantee (compliance C-04) is offered anywhere.
Law and disputes
New York law governs these terms. If you have a problem with Sixly, email support@sixly.ai first and we'll try to fix it.
For review, needs a lawyer: Arbitration, small claims and how disputes work with a minor user are left for counsel (compliance D-02).
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. Each change gets a new version number. We'll tell account holders by email and in the app before a change takes effect, and we'll ask again where the law needs your yes.
